Merry Christmas from all of us at Evolve Rentals. Whether you are spending it with us in Queenstown, collecting a car in Auckland on the way to somewhere good, or reading this from somewhere much colder, we hope the day is a good one.
Christmas here is summer, which still surprises people. Long light evenings, lake swims for the brave, lunch outside and a drive somewhere beautiful before dark. If that sounds like your kind of Christmas, a car from Evolve Rentals is the easiest way to have it.
A Christmas without the snow
In Queenstown the highest peaks can keep a dusting of snow into summer, and that is as close to a white Christmas as it gets. Down in the valley it is shorts, sunscreen and the smell of somebody's barbecue. The lake is at its bluest, the evenings go on forever, and the whole district slows down for a day.
It is the one day of the year when a lot of the country closes, so the best plan is a simple one: get the shopping done on Christmas Eve, pack a picnic, and go and find a view.
Our favourite Christmas drives
There is no shortage of views. Our top five views you can only reach by car is the place to start. The road to Glenorchy along the lake is our pick for a Christmas picnic, and Arrowtown, twenty minutes away, is lovely for a slow afternoon wander. For the rest of the holidays, our December road trips go further afield, to Tekapo, Mount Cook and the glaciers.
