Glenorchy Animal Experience opens its gates again on Wednesday 29 October 2025 and it’s the perfect excuse to plan a classic road trip from Queenstown to Glenorchy.

Set on a working farm just a few minutes past Glenorchy township, this hands on animal encounter offers visitors the chance to meet, feed and interact with a wide range of friendly farm animals including sheep, alpacas, goats, pigs, miniature ponies and more. If you’re travelling with kids (or you’re just an animal lover yourself), it’s an experience that always delivers.

A Scenic Drive Worth Doing Twice

The drive to Glenorchy is one of the most iconic in New Zealand. Winding along the shores of Lake Wakatipu with views across to the Humboldt Mountains, it’s less than an hour from Queenstown but feels like stepping into another world. There are photo stops galore and once you’re there, it’s easy to turn a visit into a full day out. Explore the Glenorchy Lagoon walkway, grab a bite at Mrs Woolly’s or carry on toward Paradise for even more stunning scenery.

With lambs in the paddocks and sunshine returning to the Southern Lakes, late October is the ideal time to visit. The farm is open Wednesday to Sunday and it’s suitable for all ages.
